    c/o Monroe County Tourism. This famous Maine-to-Georgia footpath follows the crest of Peters Mountain from the southern Monroe County line with Virginia to a point above the Sugar Camp Farm, a part of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. Monroe County is one of only two counties in WV which can claim a portion of the Appalachian Trail.

    Class VI - On The Gorge Hiking Trail

    Class VI's 140 acre wooded campus on the rim of the New River Gorge and Mill Creek offers a private hiking trail that leads to a magical trout stream on one side and into the New River Gorge and world-class rock climbing on the other side. From Smokey's On The Gorge, you can travel east along the rim and connect with the National Park Service "Laing Trail" which loops through Burnwood. Cool down after an enchanting walk through the beautiful oak forests at Chetty's Pub or Smokey's.

    c/o Monroe County Tourism. Southern terminus originates from the Appalachian Trail near Pine Swamp Ridge above the Sugar Camp Farm. Trail follows the ridge of Peters Mountain northeastward to Laurel Branch, near Sweet Springs. When completed, the footpath will extend northward through WV and into PA.

    Greenbrier River Trail

    Beginning in Greenbrier County, this 76-mile trail is used for hiking, biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. Some areas are wheelchair accessible.

    Call for directions or stop by Canyon Rim (304-574-2115), or Sandstone (304-466-9192) visitors centers. Park headquarters is in Glen Jean. Over 50 miles of trails are found in the New River Gorge. Four trails are open to both hikers & mountain bikers.
