The New and Greenbrier River Valleys of southern West Virginia are rich with heritage ranging from Indian and early American settlements, Civil War sites, Coal Mining & Railroad histories to various points of interest making a visit to this area a history buff’s dream. Southern West Virginia towns have histories as deep as our mountains!

Southern West Virginia is proud of the rich history and heritage that has shaped our culture. Our past runs deep into the mountains where you can still see the remnants of the coal mining and railroad industries. Take a tour of an exhibition coal mine, visit a museum or exhibit or ride the New River Train in the fall.

Visit historic towns where you can visit Civil War sites or travel one of our historical and scenic highways.

Celebrate our heritage at Tamarack "The Best of West Virginia" where everything has been created by a WV Artisan.
