Fairs and Festivals
One of the great things about Southern West Virginia is the number of wonderful fairs, festivals and special events that take place throughout our nine-county region. Attracting residents and visitors alike, these fairs and festivals provide the perfect setting for family outings and get-togethers with friends.

Hometown Mountain Heritage Festival
c/o New River CVB. June 20-22, 2008. Celebrate in true West Virginia fashion! Arts, crafts, food and music. A ton of old-fashioned fun for all ages. Festival held in Ansted, WV.
Country Roads Festival
September 20-21, 2008. Held at Hawks Nest State Park, Ansted, WV. Enjoy a gem in fall festivals! Arts, crafts, food and music.
October Sky Fall Festival
October 4, 2008. "October Sky" author, Homer Hickam & Rocket boys will attend festival. Autographs and book signings, entertainment, food, hayride, games and more. All WV authors invited to attend. Model rocket launching throughout the day! See scenic southern West Virginia at its fall spendor.
Friends of Coal Auto Fair
July 18-20, 2008. Join us at the spacious grounds of the YMCA Youth Sports Complex in the mountains of West Virginia for the 2008 Friends of Coal Auto Fair - one of the state's fastest growing car shows. This year in concert - Randy Travis! (call or email for ticket information)
Ronceverte River Festival
Comcast Mountain Festival
c/o Bluefield Chamber of Commerce. Held every Memorial Day Weekend. Entertainment, fireworks, crafts and more. Fun for the entire family.
Bramwell Oktoberfest
October 11, 2008. The Bramwell Oktoberfest is known for its excellent live musical entertainment, with traditional folk, bluegrass, blues and alternative artists performing throughout the day. Beer competition.
19th Annual Appalachian String Band Festival
July 30-August 3, 2008. Five-day mountaintop gathering of string band musicians and fans from around the world. Concerts, contests, square dances, workshops and family activities. Rustic camping available.
Grape Stomping Wine Festival
September 20-21, 2008. 18th Annual Grape Stomping Festival at Kirkwood Winery off US 19 on Phillips Run Rd. Third Saturday and Sunday in September - 10 am to 6 pm. Grape eating and grape stomping competitions.
New River Gorge Bridge Day Festival
c/o New River CVB. October 18, 2008. Largest one day festival in West Virginia. Spectacular views, BASE Jumpers, and vendors offering food and crafts.
Stoco Communities Reunion
July 26, 2008. Annual gathering for all current and former residents of Coal City and surrounding communities. Reunion is held at the Old Stoco High School Building in Coal City. Free food and free entertainment.
Appalachian Coal Town Christmas and Light Festival
December 5-7, 2008. Light displays underground in what once as an operational coal mine. Tours continue weekends through December. Festival hosted by the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum of Southern WV.
John Henry Days Festival
Christmas in Fayetteville
Saturday, December 13, 2008. Come celebrate "A Traditional Christmas in Fayetteville." The old fashioned way . . . with friends and loved ones. Breakfast with Santa, winter carnival parade & more. Big time fun - the small town way!
Festival of the Rivers
August 30-31, 2008. c/o Flannigan-Murrell House Inc. This annual event showcases international, regional and local musicians including homemade instruments. Bluegrass, gospel, folk, rock and R&B musical performances. Located at Hinton City Sidetrack Park and Waterslide. Saturday & Sunday, Labor Day weekend. Free to public.
State Fair of West Virginia
August 8-16, 2008. Family fun and entertainment. Five-star agricultural event. Livestock, exhibits, carnival, concerts, entertainment, great food and more! Visit www.statefairofwv.com for more information. Major credit cards.
Hinton Railroad Days & New River Train Excursions
October 18, 19, 25 and 26, 2008. c/o Railroad Museum. An exciting festival held in Hinton's National Historic District. Coincides with peak fall foliage in the Gorge. Crafts, quilts, food, fun and entertainment. 9am to 5pm each day. For New River Train Excursion tickets: 866-639-7487.
Oak Leaf Festival
c/o New River CVB. August 28-31, 2008. Enjoy the celebration of Fall. Vendors, crafts, food, art show, beauty pageant, fireworks, parade and carnival. Come join the celebration.
New River Gorge 4th of July Heritage Festival
June 27 - July 4, 2008. Fayetteville invites you to celebrate their annual 4th of July festivities featuring a 5K run, live entertainment, crafts, food, parade, fireworks & more! Coincided with Fayetteville High School's Come Home Reunion. Held in Downtown Fayetteville and Town Park.
